Debate: Navy vs. Classic Blue

So you already have a pair of Vans Authentic's locked up and you are looking into buying yet another pair because, well, they are totally radical.  The real issue here is not that you have a bunch of the same sneaker (since they are unstoppable) as it is what colorway should you spend your hard earned 42 bucks on?  You've got your standard natural canvas, white, navy and red to choose from, but with the weather warming up you now have all these seasonal joints hitting the shelves as well.  Do you go with the navy standby or do you rock the classic blue just now made available? Is it about the contrast stitching? What about the color of the sole?  Damn...do you just buy both? You tell me 'cause I sure as hell don't have any idea.

  1. Just got the classic blue ones a few months ago. They look amazing with everything. The colour pops so nicely.

  2. if you are a little crazy and wear brighter colors grab the classic, if you wear quieter colors, go for the navy. personally, i wear the craziest colors possible in the summer, so i would scoop up a pair of classic blue

  3. for the seriously minded well dressed gentleman, navy. for the conscientiously, carefully adorned young hipster, classic blue.

  4. I don't mind either color, but it's always been about the gum sole.

  5. oof tough call but navy is my vote. classic, more subtle and versatile but hey, your call my man.

  6. Eschew "Classic Blue". There is nothing whatsoever classic about it and it has no place in a gentleman's wardrobe

  7. Navy- if only to avoid the atrocious cobalt sole of the 'classic' blue. The gum sole is essential.

  8. I'd normally go with Navy anyday but on this particular shoe, I'd have to say classic blue

  11. Colour wise they run the same route.

But, as unitedstyle and preston said if you're up for a pair, whatever the colour it's all about a gum sole.

Old School - the colour is a misnomer; a pair of shoes with not one but two adverts on them have no place in a gentleman's wardrobe. If this isn't reason enough to cut a new tack, bear in mind Cad's, Heels and Bounders always have more fun and prettier girls.

  14. I've been wearing Navy Authentics for years and years. Once one pair gets so worn out it's embarrassing to wear them in public, I just buy another pair. There is no greater shoe.

    Authentics are indeed great.

    However, they're great pumps.

Amongst the behemoths that roam the shoes-plains they are but stick boys armed with pea shooters.

  19. Navy for sure. For a short time they had a nautically-themed authentic. It was navy, with a white and navy striped side panel. So tight.
