Gap's Blue Gold
The good folks at Gap seem to think this chambray and demin craze isn't going anywhere anytime soon. They've loaded up on a variety of western and work shirts all of which are being sold at the Gap's trademark pricepoints. I personally prefer Gap's cut to J. Crew's and they seem to be closing the detail "gap" as well - western shirts come clad with pearl snaps and the chambray shirts have what looks to be redone pockets and collars. With Gap at least you know what you're getting and even though it's not the best made stuff in the world it's good to know there is a lower priced option out there. With the price of chambray at an all time high and people getting more bullish by the day it's good to know someone is looking out for the little guy - the little guy who happens to be straight broke.

That's a solid collection there. I could easily get three and barely sniff the $150 mark.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of really into the gap right now - it's like they've found their stride as a cheaper j.crew...
ReplyDeleteThe last gray chambray shirt pictured is my favorite I think... You really can't beat their prices.
ReplyDeleteEpaulets don't belong on denim shirts. Maybe the designers were confused? But then for the price you might expect confused designers. Gap is a lifeline for many a folk in the price respect.
ReplyDeleteIn September I picked up the Gap's gray chambray with the unflapped, button-through pockets (I don't think they are still carrying it). Looks just like the one J. Crew sells for $98, even has the throat tab, except it's a slightly different shade of gray. Gap's price was $44.50, and at the time I had a $10 reward card to use, so 1/3 of the Crew price. And no epaulets.
ReplyDeleteCount me in with the No Epaulets Club. Can't wait for that trend to fade away again.
ReplyDeleteWhat's up with the fading on the first shirt? Was the original only worn at high noon?
My gripe with epaulets is they're simply clutter.
ReplyDeleteTab collars seem very popular again too and, yes, they look great in pictures, but on I can't get along with that piece of cloth flapping around.
Clutter again to my mind.
I was never a huge fan of this chambray fad, but Gap's grey version is quite tempting. And in a western style to boot!
ReplyDeletehave they finally fixed the fit on their button up shirts? i'm a narrow guy and when i went during the fall the things were still just hanging off me...
ReplyDeletei sincerely hope so, because that gray western is great.
The Gap chambray fits me super well, I need to snag the grey version.
ReplyDeleteI personally have really enjoyed my J Crew version and got it for like $30 bucks on sale. I had to size down considerably to get a great fit though.
ReplyDeleteI really cringe when I see Epaulets on stuff because it just seems so overdone and doesn't add much to most shirts and jackets.
Honestly, I say you should just save your pennies and get a really great vintage or quality one from like EG or Woolrich and call it a day. I figure you get a quality one you really love and you'll never have to look at another again.
But then again if we did, we wouldn't a have a lot to blog about right?
I am liking these much better then last year's chambray offerings. I do have to agree with some about the epaulets, seems a little overdone for me. Full desclosure, I have not seen these in person and that is sometimes a deal breaker at the gap for me.
ReplyDeleteim really liking the new gap selvage jeans right about now... picked up a nice pair in a straight fit for 89 bucks...cant beat that.
ReplyDeleteAs expected the shirts look good but the fit leave a whole lot to be desired. The typical gap fit, just plain acquired.
