Premium Selvedge Levi's 514

I get a lot of inquiries from guys looking to get into their first pair of selvedge denim and I usually recommend the APC New Standard - that was my first pair and I have yet to meet someone who wasn't completely satisfied with them.  If you're someone mulling over the various options of selvedge denim you might want to also check out a pair of premium selvedge 514's.  They are back in stock over at Levis and at $98 they are one of the cheaper, "starter" pairs on the market.  The 514 is a "slim straight" cut and my personal favorite from the brand - not as Obama as the 501 and not as Russell Brand as the 511.  Here are the facts: the jeans are made from Japanese sourced denim, manufactured in China and feature a zipper fly.  They probably wouldn't be the first choice for a denim snob, but for someone just getting into the game they are a good entry point with an entry level price.  As far as sizing goes, the lengths are all 34L which if un-hemmed can give you either a neat roll, a deep cuff or some stacking depending on your height of course.  Waist measurements can get a little tricky based on the 514's lower rise, but there is a ton of literature on the internet, particularly a thread in Style Forum, to help you out with that.

  6. Those pictures present these awfully.

One note on APC - the stretch outwards seems endless.

Albam are worth a check - reasonable too.

  7. Those photos make it look awful. APC is entry-level enough if not, the standard. I've converted dozens of people to APC just based on the simplicity and price of them. Seriously, anybody looking for jeans just go for them. I could buy one pair every year and be happy for the rest of my life. Not that I buy it that frequently, you just can't beat them fadez.
