Shuron Ltd.

Greenvile, SC is home to one of the oldest and most stylish glasses companies in The United States.  Shuron Ltd. has been manufacturing their frames since 1865 and today are a gold standard in timelessness.  They served our troops in WWII by providing mobile optical units and have served literally millions of customers - their 16,000,000th Ronsir model was sold on August 6, 1971.  These stats are staggering and prove just what kind of company Shuron really is.  While their are no prices on the website, Shuron encourages its customers to drop them a line or shoot them an email to inquire about stockists and direct purchases.  Like any good pair of frames, be they for glasses or shades, Shuron's models will never go out of style and I can think of about 16 million people who can vouch for that.

    I had Shuron make me a pair of prescription sunglasses two years ago, the Freeway in "demi amber" (pic #5 above) with dark green lenses. I get compliments on them all the time. Have a look: http://some-assembly.blogspot.com/2009/08/style-file-shuron-freeway-sunglasses.html

    Most frame styles are available in a wide variety of sizes, and their customer service is outstanding. And not least, you're getting something that's been manufactured in the U.S.A.

    My glasses are black Freeways; my sunglasses are the translucent brown Freeways with green lenses.

    Also, it's worth mentioning that the frames run about a hundred bucks -- cheap by eyewear standards

    My Shuron Ronsir Zyl frames were around $95 when I bought them last year. That should give you an idea of the pricing. They'll let you pay a deposit of the cost of one pair and send you 3 or so different sizes or styles to try on if you want and they you can just ship back the ones you don't want. If you don't want any of them, they'll refund your deposit and you're only out the cost of shipping.

    Also, hey have an optician lab for lenses, but I'm not really satisfied with my lenses. I recommend buying the frames and getting lenses made locally.

    I have bought four pairs and they are amazing. I always get compliments on them and they look great and stand tough. They have out lasted all other pairs of glasses even those that cost three times as much. A wise investment.

    I accidentally dropped a very large bag of cat litter on my Ronsir Zyls. No damage to the glasses, whatsoever. And yeah, the style is unbeatable, in my opinion.

    On my sixth pair of Sidewinders and have had Freeways in the past. Best frames ever. And they run about $70 online.
