The Process

I was hanging out poolside this afternoon when I saw a guy in a pair of the dirtiest, most filthy, just straight up busted bucks I had ever seen. He was the absolute man and reminded me that the best thing about buying a pair of these...

...is getting them to look like this.

  1. Does one really have a choice?

Isn't that what happens anyway, whether one wants it or not?

  2. I've always been fascinated by the dichotomy of a certain class of things, from shoes to books to faces, that look best either pristinely new and squeaky clean, or battered to hell after being around the block a few too many times. I'd never thought of bucks as being in that category before, but now it seems so obvious.

  3. What would one wear these with?

  4. I try not to get my shoes to the state of the 2nd photo, but those are the ones that speak the stories you love to recount.

  5. I can't do that. I am what would be termed a 'box fresh' nerd. It comes from having an unhealthy obsession with trainers for most of my life. I won't ever leave the house wearing dirty shoes/trainers.

If these were mine they would have had a full can of Scotch Guard applied to them before they went anywhere near my feet and they'd be blocked and brushed after every wear.

They do look cool knackered though.

  6. Dutch Uncle- Let's be honest, if you really want to keep you shoes clean you can take the necessary steps.

Pat- Chinos, shorts, etc. Whatever you would wear during S/S will only look better with a pair of bucks.

  7. Certain things just look better beat to shit and scuffed. Denim, a Barbour jacket, chinos, boat shoes, and of course... bucks.

  9. $79 for a pair of white bucks that look sharp...buy two pairs.
One for "box fresh" and the other to wear while actually having some fun...

  10. I struggle with this on a day to day basis. Last time I wore my white bucks I found myself dancing like an idiot to some awful band that covered what were, and still are, awful 90's hits. The morning after my bucks were beat. But after reading this little post, I'll give up trying to clean them and give em another shot. They deserve it.
