Gap's New Utility Collection: Amendment
After browsing the new Utility Collection a little more diligently I did find this pretty cool anorak, which for $89.50 isn't bad. I've been on the prowl for a new anorak to serve as my top layer for S/S and I'm liking what I see here. Before any triggers are pulled, quality and fit need to be tested out in person so maybe you'll be lucky enough to read another amendment to this already played out series of posts (and to think it's only been about 15 minutes).

I picked up the navy version of this last weekend. My size is normally somewhere between L and XL depending on how fitted the cut is (damn you last 15 pounds!!!). I tried the XL first but it was too wide in the shoulders and didn't feel right. The L fit perfectly over a t-shirt and heavy twill button-down. Zipped up it was close to my body but not binding.
ReplyDeleteThe chambray in the lining is a nice touch. The lower pockets are snap closures with a side-entry pocket underneath. The hand-opening is a little small, although I just may need to be more aggressive popping the stitch that seems to be just for show. I swapped with the jacket I was wearing when I got in the car, but we finally got some snow and cold that afternoon so I haven't really tested it out. The only negative I have so far is that the sleeves may be a little short, but it appears I'm supposed to be rolling them up a little, so I may be wrong about that.
i would ebay a vintage sierra designs, ems or woolrich. i bought a couple for 60 total. maybe i'll be able to add to the adventures from the previous owner?
ReplyDeleteCall me picky but when I think of an anorak I picture a hooded garment without a full-front zipper (one that you have to pull over your head). That's just a jacket. And likely a fairly thin one.
ReplyDeleteTucker- You are picky, but that's why the people love you.
ReplyDeleteTucker - it is pretty thin. There is some lining between the chambray and outside nylon (or whatever) but not a lot. A S/S jacket to be sure.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree, an anorak is a pull-over.
Tucker/Chris- From Wiki "Originally an anorak specifically implied a pull-over jacket without a zipper, button or frogged opening, but this distinction is now largely lost, and many garments with a full-length front opening are now described as anoraks."
ReplyDeleteStill has that Gap touch, and I have to agree with Tucker here...I suppose it comes down to personal interpretation, but when I think anorak, I think pullover. The anoraks in your earlier post are incomparably better in my opinion. This just kinda looks like a half-assed field jacket or something.
