Attn: Brooks Brothers Loses Even More Weight

With their shirts and ties already trimmed up for a younger customer it appears that Brooks Brothers felt it was time to give their chinos a similar treatment.  Currently on sale now the Jaggy Five Pocket Summer Chino is a European influenced summer weight chino, designed in Italy and offered in a variety of S/S friendly colors.  This is a big move by Brooks Brothers who continue to prove they can function at a high level in between what is not only classic, but forward thinking (at least in terms of fit).  It appears as if these aren't solely an online exclusive so make sure you call your local BB to check if they have any in stock so you can try on a pair yourself.  If these are even half as good as their extra slim fit shirts I'll more than likely be adding a pair or two myself.  I would have never pegged anything from Brooks as "Neapolitan", but I guess there's a first time for everything.

  1. Its about time that more and more companies are embracing the slim fit chino. For years I would complain the lack of slim fit chinos in the US market. The pants featured here are bad ass! The array of colors is sick and last but not least the fit. The only complain I have is the, what looks to be a lion, logo on the pocket. Other than that NICE! I think as time goes on men in their 30's - 50's will embrace the slim fit as dictated here.

  2. Great idea in theory, especially the reds, but the jeans pockets and obtrusive branding sorta kill the whole thing dead in the water

  4. Actually they had some great slimfit pants in what they call Milano at around 45 bucks in the their sale (originally about 60 bucks) in pink, green, orange, stone, blue, redand I bought four pairs which look very good. You can buy them a size too long and turn them up if you want!!

  5. Dewey- The branding is a little lame, but I disagree with the jean pockets. The pant is a casual five pocket summer chino, which as far as I am concerned is fine.

  6. BJ- These pants look much slimmer than the Milano, which I would peg as a slim straight leg if I'm being generous.

  7. Hmm I don't know. The five pocket design kinda kills it for me. Wouldn't these be considered jeans (non-denim)? I always thought chinos had more of a trouser cut.

  8. Don't like the embroidered pocket. Polo tried this and it really turned me off.

  9. From a distance the logo looks like an Express lion. Not cool.

  10. I have to concur with everyone else in regards to the embroidered pockets. If they were a plain pocket, minus the logo, these pants would be boss. I hope someone at Brooks Brothers is reading this thread.

  11. Actually, dewey has linked to the same pants without the logo or extra pockets. They, also, are on sale.

  12. These are some cheesy pants the Italian owners of Brooks tried to dump on the Americans. Needless to say, nobody bought them.

For more of this crap, see the hideous "Football Leather Sport Shoe" Brooks is now importing from Italy -- the ugliest $600 you'll ever spend.

  16. Thanks, L.A.S.

Just thought I'd let you know that I'm still alive and as orthodoxly Trad as ever.

  17. The link dewey sent is solid. Those are what chinos should look like. both are the "jaggy chino". The 5-pocket look is a bit lame. That is definitely an Express logo. I had zoom in to see that it's actually a dancing bear. Either way, it needs to go. Thanks LAS for turning us to this, and thanks to Dewey for perfecting it.

  18. Shit If you guys don't like the embroidered logo then get the color pants that don't show it much. WTF guys?

  19. Get something made.

    Or get something altered.

Coloured jeans don't get my engines started, bit too Camden/Kensington Market / The Garage circa '89 for me.

  20. Oh wow, these look like Brooks' answer to Incotex. Did anyone spot the red tap on the rear belt loop that says "jaggy"? Kind of a turn off, but still worth considering.

  21. FYI everybody - Jaggy is an Italian brand that Brooks is co-branding with. The dancing bear is their logo. See below:

Such an odd move for brooks...

  22. The slacks are so much better than the jean fit...

  23. Boo on the lack of 28 waist options.

  25. It's like the Brethren is trying to do what J Crew has been doing lately in terms of bringing in other brands and is failing pretty miserably at it.

  26. Dear lord... I ordered a pair of the moss green 5-pocket "jeans" after reading this. I have a very old pair of khaki colored straight leg "jeans" like these from Banana Republic circa 1989 and thought I'd try another.

These are hideous and are being returned today. What I didn't know was just how startling the little logo is. To make matters worse, there is contrast RED stitching along the pocket seams and some kind of Girbaud-esque tab at the center seam in the back below the waistband.

    Yikes.

  27. I just returned my navy ones (the sizing is so Italian), went a few doors down to H&M and got almost the exact same thing in navy and one in grey. They fit, are sans annoying logo, and cost 30 bucks each.

Also got blue oxford sportcoat for $30.
