[Insert Name] Loves Take Ivy

By now you have most surely heard or read about the upcoming Take Ivy English translation reissue courtesy of powerHouse Books.  Below you will find some endorsements for the book from Michael Bastian, Tintin, Fred and Chris over at the publisher's YouTube channel.  If you need some the back story on this iconic publication hit the Take Ivy tag at the bottom of the post.  I have two copies coming my way so be on the lookout for a dandy little Sart Inc giveaway when the book ships.

  2. Is it just me or does Michael Bastian seem to be one of the most down to Earth people ever? I never realized how "normal" he was for such a big name designer.

  4. I don't get this Unabashedly Prep guy. He's got a website for his wedding photography business where he describes himself as a "t-shirt, jeans, and man-bag kind of guy," and there's a bunch of photos of him on there wearing hoodies and t-shirts and flip-flops and other unabashedly non-prep clothing... but then on his OTHER site he's like a walking Preppy Handbook. It's like he's got some Jekyll-Hyde thing going on.

  5. As Michael Bastian says in the clip, the "entire concept of preppy needs a reboot." And he can start by taking that shitty logo off his polo shirt.

  6. @ anon quit spitting rudeness from your tiny fingers.

rarely would I want go to bat for any designer but not only is Michael Bastian amazing, he is also one of the most humble and authentic men i've ever met.

we worked together at bergdorfs for a few years and he was constantly pushing the envelope. I wish him the very best and would like you to hold your criticism on someone until you've met them.

please sir just use some manners. shame on you.

  9. @Aron

I'm sure he's a nice guy, but what the hell is that on his shirt? A lacrosse player? A wine stain?

  10. Dear "I don't get this Unabashedly Prep guy,"

My wedding photography (and website) are a brand unto themselves targeting the southern California wedding market. The images of me running around in hoodies, flip flops and t-shirts are a concentrated marketing effort to communicate southern california style. The approach is extremely laid back. The Fred Egan brand is not F.E. Castleberry.

The individual you have come to know on Unabashedly Prep is truly myself. It is a style blog born out of passion and began with the simple intentions of it being a hobby. No Jekyll/Hyde complex going on. If we ever meet, you will be familiar with the F.E. Castleberry you've come to know via Unabashedly Prep.

  11. I admire and am inspired by these chaps for starting their own brands. Well done guys. I wonder, though, what did the publisher offer you for this well-coordinated publicity/marketing campaign.

  13. I got a book and a proof. Nothing else. I don't get excited by much. Certainly not LL Bean's Signature line or J Crew's, Made in Macau, oxfords. That crap is annoying and it's ersatz.

Take Ivy is authentic. And while it may look like we're giving these guys a hand job or worse, I only did it because I have a passion for the book. Nothing else.
