Sperry Workboot Boat Shoes

Combining the aesthetics of two classics is nothing new despite how difficult it is to truly create a "new classic" from preexisting ones.  Sperry's new Authentic Original Workboot Chukka isn't really a "new classic" by any stretch of the imagination because it's just a boat shoe chukka which as far as I am concerned is a straight up classic in its own right.  So what do we have here?  Simply put, Sperry AO chukkas now have a version with orange workboot/hiking laces for a little F/W twist.  That's it.  But maybe this is exactly the shoe you're looking for or maybe you're too lazy to change out the laces of the usual AO chukka yourself (that 360 degree lacing system can be a bitch).  All I know is that I like boat shoe chukkas and I like these.

  1. These being produced will lead to me purchasing them. Fire.

  2. These are the worst hybrid since the the Huarache Burst. Combining workboots with deck shoes is just such an obvious bad idea - like combining a porshe and an SUV...

  3. AJ- You missed the point brotha. These actually aren't hybrids despite being branded as such. They are just boat shoe chukkas with orange laces. If you think that boat shoe chukkas are a bad idea then I take it you think deck boots are a bad idea too. And at that point I just feel sorry for your feet.

  4. As an owner of Sperry's earlier model of Chukkas I have one word of warning to folk's that owned pair(s) of top-siders in the past: The 360' lacing isn't "active." What I mean to say (as with the low-top deck shoe) is that the wrap around lace is only decorative. The laces up the tongue are your standard x-pattern with a straight-lace bar across the bottom. Minor detail, but one that makes me sad every time I put them on.

  5. I'm sort of bewildered by this. If you like boat shoes, buy boat shoes. If you want to wear workboots, wear workboots. Why is there a need to combine the two? Sperry already has some chukkas out, they should stick with what they do best.

  6. D. Law- While the 360 degree lacing system looks decorative because it doesn't link up with the laces in the front it does not negate the fact that they still offer a more secure fit versus a pair that lacks 360 degree lacing.

It does make changing out laces a predicament though. You either end up with two different ones or some serious work in removing the current 360 degree laces and threading your new ones through.
