Kiton F/W 2010

Kiton is one of those brands that doesn't really need to answer to anyone.  They do what they've done since 1968 (or 1956 if you count CI.PA.) and sell to the <1% of men who can afford their stuff.  Are the prices justified? That's hard to say.  Having been to Kiton's NYC cathedral I can vouch for the brand's sheer epicness of quality and craftsmanship, but I'm not a fan of everything they produce in an aesthetic sense.  The sportcoats, awesome.  The shirts, not my thing.  Checking out the F/W 2010 collection only reaffirmed my previous sentiments - some stuff kills, while other stuff misses the mark.  And combining everything together?  Well, that's just not a good look.  It's kinda like the incredibly high class Italian version, at least in principle, of when you see a dude kitted out in full EG.  The best stuff ends up getting watered down by mediocre counterparts, which is a bummer when all you're looking for is inspiration.  When stuff is this expensive, buying doesn't even remotely cross my mind.  Judge for yourself below.  And lest I fail to mention those blue suede whole cuts - wowsers.

  2. Some of the ensembles are awesome -- with the exception of the pocket squares: much, too much pouring from the pocket like lava from Mt. St. Helens. Make that, Etna. Shove 'em back down an inch or so, fellas.

  3. Incredible. Their suits and sport coats are awesome. And don't forget the shoes.

  5. Birdman's Kitson comment killed me. The people who shop there are probably dumb enough to think Kitson equals Kiton.

The clothing looks okay. The styling, especially the pocket squares really distracts from the clothing. And I hate it when super high-end brands do jeans, as the guys who wear them probably have their jeans pressed.

  7. It all works very well--
they push the color and pattern combinations in the same way that etro does; just a bit over the top. But it truly works.
I don't understand the protest over the shirts or pocket squares. I think the outfits are right on the mark, head to toe.

I'm just not big on the skinny-pants-with-suits thing that going on right now.

  10. The fit on that pinstripe suit is astonishingly, shockingly bad. The giant horizontal folds under the dude's chest make him look like a voluptuous woman wearing a boy's jacket.

When there isn't room for the pocket square without ruining the line of the jacket, it might be a sign that it's a bit too tight.
