Cuff Knots Minus Cuffs

For a dude who owns not a single french cuff shirt I sure do own a lot of cuff knots.  Why's that?  Well, I like to put them into the buttonholes on my jacket lapels.  See, some of us who aren't ready for stuff like this still want a little bit of sartorial flair on our lapels.  And that's where your friendly, neighborhood cuff knot comes in.  Pop one in and you're done.  It's that simple.  You can go all novelty during these dreary winter months or keep things brooding with dark, solid colors - it's totally up to you.  Maybe you want to highlight the fabric in the jacket itself, your trousers or your shirt.  It doesn't matter.  At the end of the day you're the guy who went that tiny extra step to keep things interesting.  And that guy usually does pretty well for himself.  Here are some of my more monochromatic F/W sportcoats with that added bit of cuff knot jazz.

  1. I believe that these are known as silk knots and not cuff knots.

  2. Anon- Different names for the same thing. But yeah, I am specifically talking about silk knots in this case.

The ones I linked up are Ladrini lapel flowers. Can't find any for sale on the web. Hit up Google. Good luck and god speed.

  7. Thanks - the JHP are a bit busy though, I prefer the cartoon/popart look of the Lardini. Do you know shops in NYC that stock Lardini? (website wasn't any help) I think I might have seen it Barneys once but not sure.

  8. @MJP: Cut some felt into a flower shape. Stick it in your lapel.

  9. Why not try a swivel-backed cuff link from J.C. Penney or other fine retailer? A large colored stone would be nice.

  11. I first saw silk knots at J. Press and liked them ever since. Nice use of them while your french cuffs are at the cleaners.

  12. Do you rock them on both lapels, or just the left?

  13. Lawrence, it's time to put Sart Inc. into smash mode.

  14. Jesse- Because I don't like them. They are too stuffy for my tastes. And since I don't go to black tie events on the reg it's not that big of a deal.

Anon @10:46- Most sportcoats, and all of mine for that matter, only have one lapel buttonhole.

  16. (had to edit) I usually only read this site on my RSS feed but do like to come and see what snarky, unbelievably cynical comments the usual Anon dude (or dudette I suppose) has to say about someone else's opinions. It's pretty funny how seriously this individual takes menswear, worth actually visiting the site to read their comments. Yo! Anonymous! Visit howradwasit.blogspot.com and make fun of my shit too! Maybe it'll inspire me to post more.

  18. DAMN! Sweet...thanks for posting. I have several cuff knots but only one shirt with french cuffs. This definitely gives me some ideas.

  19. Monochrome leaves leaves the tie choices open, but I would think the striped knot leaves one to approach the tie as the same with a pocket square. What tie were you rocking with the blue/white or red/white knots?

  20. Anyone know if it's safe to cut open the button hole? Most of the jackets at Brooks actually only sew on the eyelet pattern, but there's no actual gap in between them. It's more for just for lapel pins. The lady said if you cut the slit open it would ruin the jacket. Comments?

  21. They are irresistible. I like your idea. I don't have many french cuff shirts (only one) but now I have another use for my cuff knots. Thanks
