[Insert Name] Loves Take Ivy

By now you have most surely heard or read about the upcoming Take Ivy English translation reissue courtesy of powerHouse Books.  Below you will find some endorsements for the book from Michael Bastian, Tintin, Fred and Chris over at the publisher's YouTube channel.  If you need some the back story on this iconic publication hit the Take Ivy tag at the bottom of the post.  I have two copies coming my way so be on the lookout for a dandy little Sart Inc giveaway when the book ships.

You Look Familiar, Have We Met?

Rugby makes no secret about its love for the prep and Ivy aesthetic and it's always really neat to see their interpretation on all those staples we style nerds hold so dear.  As many of you guys already know much of that very aesthetic lies within the pages of Take Ivy, which makes this new hoodie from Rugby all the more awesome.

This piece was actually designed by my buddy Antonio, formerly of Rugby, and while his fabric choices as a knit designer were obviously limited he did his best to stay as true to the original as possible.  His version does make some tweaks here and there (i.e. losing the pocket bellow due to fabric constraints and adding a real Indian madras hood liner), but overall is a very cool interpretation of a specific iconic garment.  There's nothing I appreciate more then getting the opportunity to learn about a designer's motivation, inspiration and what drives their work so I thought this would be an interesting little bit to share.

Attn: Take Ivy Resissued?

Mister Crew just broke what is probably the biggest news item of the day.  The book that launched 1,000 menswear collections is apparently available for pre-order.  This is no doubt the best $25 you are going to spend all year so get on it assuming it's legit.  If you don't know what Take Ivy is hit the tag at the bottom of the post or just Google it - it's well worth your precious time. I promise.

The Ivy Crewneck

[Pictured: Scan from 2nd Magazine via Ivy Style.]

Ivy Style just put up a piece that highlights 2nd's (a Japanese style magazine) feature on how to pull off certain looks from such iconic works as "Take Ivy".  The magazine does a wonderful job at breaking down a bunch of shots and offering various pieces to help you replicate the highlighted outfits.  The Brown University sweatshirt featured above retails for about $150, which isn't too bad until you factor in the ridiculousness it would probably take to procure such an obscure item (especially if you live in the US and especially if you didn't go to Brown).  I highly recommend checking out the Ivy Style piece for some classic inspiration and if you're really jonesin' to buy a crewneck from a college you didn't actually attend there are a few easier ways out there.

White Socks x Loafers: A Complicated Collaboration

Looking through the pages (aka the digital scans) of Take Ivy I realized just how damn fantastic these kids made the white socks and loafers combo look back in the day.  I imagine it is pretty damn difficult to pull off now, especially with shorts, and I am not sure if I have ever seen someone stylish doing so in the wild.  Regardless, there is no denying the effortless cool that is 1960's privileged campus wear.  Maybe this upcoming spring, on a day where I'm sure I won't see anyone I know, I'll take it out for a test drive.
