Pitti The Wrist

I guess this is kind of an addendum to my treatise on F/W novelty.  But, then again, it's really just a typical product recommendation.  Anyway, this whole camo thing has really blown up lately, eh?  I mean, it makes sense.  Military influence has been a part of menswear since the beginning and this is simply its latest and greatest (subjective) incarnation.  Not everyone is down with it.  In fact, a lot of people find it foolish.  For those of you who appreciate it to some degree or those of you trying to appreciate it, why not start with a new NATO style strap?  This little number was floating around the interwebs yesterday so I naturally sought out this new thing called Google to track down some more options since not everyone rocks with 18mm spring bars.  I, of course, ended up at RLT watches who have been featured on Sart Inc before.  No surprises there.  The UK watch dealer has lots of great NATO straps, and offers both a 18mm and a 20mm camo NATO G10 strap.  They're about $14 before shipping and, like I said before, a great entry point into all this traditional military by way of Italy steez.  Wondering what it's gonna look like paired with your Rolex?  No?  Me neither.

  1. It's so funny when you style bloggers use the word interwebs! It actually gets funnier every time you use it. It's almost as good as when chicks on facebook set their relationship status as married to one of their good girlfriends!

  2. Anon- Hey man, you can submit a guest post whenever you like.

I should try bringing "information superhighway" back.

  3. Even cooler is when the watch only costs as much as the strap. Those looking for high quality and low price would be advised to scour the eBays of the Internets for deals like the one I got. Watch arrived in condition exactly as advertised. For $26 including shipping.

  4. I took my steel band off my Rolex and wear it with the Gnonom Nato Straps.

It looks great but the buckle holes wear out pretty quickly - if only they had metal grommets. I guess that's why they are $15-17.

  5. My uncle's jewelry store has dozens of these just sitting in the back room collecting dust (literally, they have a lot of dust on them), as well as all manner of vintage leather straps. Unfortunately they're all 18-20mm though so I had to order one off ebay.

  6. David - that's why you are not a businessman. Instead of selling them on ebay, you are buying them on ebay. dumbass.

  7. Cool story bro, because you know me and my watches and all. My watch has a 24mm lug, that would be like using a piece of twine as a belt. Also, I am selling them, I'm surprised you didn't know that. Whoa, see what just happened there? Logic stepped in and kicked your ass.

  8. There is something to be said for that watch band. I wear a timex but if i ever bought a nice watch it'd be a submariner. No question. Seiko's are pretty tight too for a tenth the price. You could spend the rest on new gear.

  9. I've been wearing a NATO strap with my Sinn 656 for about 8 years now . . . so comfortable. Don't like them on a Rolex though. The best ones I've found are at www.timefactors.com, made by a guy named Eddie Platts IIRC. Nicer quality strap than I've found elsewhere, although I've never purchase from RLT. Eddie's have stainless bits in either brushed or shiny metal. I order a couple/three every year...

  10. Nowadays, people want their watches to be customized. You can up to some extent change the appearance of your timepiece by just changing its strap. Mostly people prefer leather straps but these days many online retailers sell patek and other fine timepieces with interchangeable silicon straps.
