Sneak Peek: L.L. Bean Signature Winter 2010

Not much to say here besides the good news that there are indeed some new L.L. Bean Signature releases planned for the coming months and, based on this teaser, look pretty damn good.  For those keeping score at home, both the cardigan and trousers are archive inspired.

  1. Too much break in the pants. That, added with the chunky cardigan, adds too much weight to his look. Trimmer pants or trimmer cardigan, can't have both that baggy. The white shirt doesn't help either.

  2. I totally agree. I'd rock the cardigan with a tee and jeans on the weekend, or get the pants slimmed down a bit and rock some boots with them.

  3. I keep wanting to like the Signature line. For one reason or another I can't find a single piece that really interests me other than the footwear. The web site is not doing the clothes any favors either. The models look like they were recruited from a Sears catalog or something. I would like to see them take a bit more risks and slim down the cuts. I thought maybe I just had to see the stuff in person so I stopped at the Freeport store while on a New England road trip and found out that they were getting their first Signature pieces two days later.

  4. Yeah, I'm into a lot of the Signature items, but the fit is just off. And I'm the kind of guy with big enough thighs that I sometimes have to order up a size from a place like Bonobos to accomodate the whole situation down there. So if I'm complaining that the legs aren't slim enough, they're just not "updated" or "modern" fit or whatever other industry jargon they're using. It's kind of disappointing, to be honest. Same goes for the shirts. I've got bigger arms and chest than the average guy and the two shirts I bought from the Signature line were way too blousy.

  5. Honestly, the whole Signature line is a joke. I understand the target demographic for the collection, but what I don't understand is how off target they are with the fit. If they are trying to recruit a new audience for L.L. Bean, they certainly missed the mark. However, if the Signature line is marketed to the fat ass Joe Schmo's of the US, then they still missed the mark, as this collection is too contemporary for the average Joe.

L.L. Bean should take a cue from Brooks Brothers if they ever intend to make a profit.

  6. I've been waiting for that cardigan to come out since the previews started trickling in this summer.

  7. I bought the cotton/cashmere sweatshirt thing and it pills like a bitch.

  8. Black watch pants look like pajamas. Period. No matter what you pair them with.

  9. Agreed on the pants looking like pajamas, especially being that baggy. I'm guessing the belt is covering up the drawstring. As for Signature on the whole, I can say that the one shirt I have from them -- a cream-colored "madras sportsman's shirt" -- fits me (6'0/190) perfectly except I would never be able to button the top button over my 17" neck. Fit is slim and the quality is solid.

  10. It's hard to stand behind a brand who tries to screw with its employees salaries and benefits. Absolutely fucking pitiful, but totally American.
