3" Redux

I don't know how I missed this up until now, but O'Connell's Clothing (everyone's favorite Buffalo, NY men's shop) carries their own version of my favorite tie in the entire world - the 3" knit.  3 inches, of course, refers to the tie's width at its widest point.  I've already sung the praises of this specific entry in the neckwear cannon, but directed you guys to J. Press where their incarnation can be found for $79.50.  O'Connell's, not to be outdone by anyone, undercuts Press' pricepoint by about 14 bucks before shipping.  This is a big deal for someone like myself who pretty much wears these badboys 5 days a week, not to mention you can finally escape J. Press' ridiculous shipping costs.  Also, J. Press always seems to be sold out of the exact color you're looking for, but I don't think O'Connell's has any issues when it comes to their stock.  While J. Press' knit ties are made in Italy, O'Connell's has their ties produced in Ireland by the world famous Atkinsons Ties, who started making regimental neckwear in 1837.  If it's your first time you probably want to go with navy and build from there.

  1. Nice find. Too bad my girlfriend knows that I love these and bought every single navy version that O'Connell's had in stock. Sorry... and just kidding.

  2. Either it's my monitor or their camera, but that "navy" looks like deep purple to me. And I get nervous when one color is a line is so noticeably off, because then I wonder whether the other colors are equally distorted.

  3. I accidently wiped my ass with my J Press one a few months ago. Worst mistake of my sartorial life! Be forewarned: long knit ties can get in the way of a healthy wipe.

  4. My wife still refers to knit ties as "sock ties", though she's coming around as I add these (square end) and tipped from the likes of Jamison at Howard Yount.

Texture is such as under-rated element of adding visual variety to a look. With a smooth cotton or worsted wool suit, a knit or grenadine solid ties is the bees knees baby.

  5. I love my knit ties and bought quite a few this year. I got raked at work - the older guys laughing - "hey- you still in the 60s". My retort - hell yeah.

    Too bad about Godspeed!

  8. I guess "favorite" doesn't carry much weight if a re-post 4 times tips you completely over the edge. I would post it a 5th time just to make sure he closed the door on the way out

  9. KJ Beckett in the UK has 3" made-in-Italy knit ties for $47 delivered to the US. So there's an even cheaper option for y'all

  10. I just picked up a cool knit tie from a vintage store, the owner told me it's actually Rayon from the '40s. Cool texture and the price was certainly right. Anyone had experience with rayon ties before?

  11. You need to be backhanded if you wear "one of these bad boys" 5 times a week.

  12. Is wearing the navy tie with a navy blazer a bad idea?
