Neckwear Round Up

Today's interesting notes from the world of neckwear:  First up is an interesting take from Brooks Brothers on the classic repp tie that you don't see all to often.  The repp knit is the perfect marriage between two iconic pieces of neckwear that style dorks love.  The texture and unique look of a knit tie plus the recognizable stripes and color combinations of your standard repp tie work incredibly well together.  The result is as familiar as it is unique and I should mention that you get a pretty slick looking knot with all the different colored stripes.  Wrapping up with something cheaper, The Tie Bar is now selling wool versions (70% wool, 30% silk) of their incredibly cheap slim ties.  I'll be the first to tell you that these ties aren't anything to write home about quality wise, but if you need some seasonal neckwear on the cheap you could do a whole lot worse.

  1. I have numerous ties from The Tie Bar and they are of great quality. High price doesn't always mean better product.

  2. I have ties from Tie Bar too and I love them. What were you expecting to write home about for $15? But those BB repp knits are darn cool - will check it out now...

  4. The Tie Bar's actually had those wool ties for some time. I have one in solid navy. Top-notch quality and looks great. They also have great cotton pocket squares for insanely low prices.

  5. $15 is nothing to sneeze at, but I have several Tie Bar ties and pocket squares -- the pocket squares are thin and flimsy (and one-sided...) and the ties have noticeable loose threads after several wears, feel thin, and don't hold a firm knot.

    Like I said, $15 is a great price, but it's not a miracle, it's a budget brand.

I will say that I love the short tie bar I bought from them, however, and have zero caveats for that item.

  6. Let me also add that I really appreciate what they Tie Bar offers for $15 -- for those of us ballin on a budget it goes a long way.

I don't mean to knock them, but since they don't have retail stores it's pretty key to know what you're getting before you order, and you're getting the best non-thrifted, non-sale $15 tie you'll ever see that should never be compared to mid-tier or higher-end ties.
