Grown Man Crocs

It seems that things get more polarizing on Sart Inc with every single post so I figured I might as well go for broke sooner rather than later.  So, obviously, Crocs suck.  No one is going to deny that - solidarity, folks.  Their practicality and comfort are no excuse for how flat out terrible they look.  But what if someone was to take the idea behind Crocs and make something not absolutely terrible?  Well, Shudy, an Italian based shoe company, has done just that.  Shudy will tell you that their "First" (named that because it was literally their first product ever produced) is some supreme meeting of art and object that redefines our idea of shoes.  I'd tell you that's nonsense and that Shudy's plastic driving mocs are simply another viable option for S/S footwear.  If you find yourself running with the "we off that Americana" set, these are your L.L. Bean boot mocs.  Shudy isn't necessarily hard to get your hands on (read: Google), but it isn't exactly easy either.  Bluefly has navy and Yoox has black.  I can't personally pay more than $60 for these in good conscience so I'd recommend checking Yoox periodically for their seasonal restocks.  A friend of mine loves his and swears by them so there is at least one testimonial floating out there in the ether.  However, I'm still trying to track down someone to vouch for the Shudy Timbs.

  1. This post is an obvious troll.

Speaking of the good old (well, slightly better old) Sart Inc days, LL Bean has a Norwegian sweater half-off, with pretty good size selection for now.

  2. Anon- I wasn't trying to troll my own blog (is that even possible?). I honestly think these things are pretty good and could provide a nice break to canvas sneaks this S/S.

Also, I tried to transition sale posts/blasts from Sart Inc to my Tumblr.

  3. Half the time I read these comment threads just to watch LAS swat down the trolls. Never actually seen him flat-out chumming the waters though. This should be fun. (P.S. Love the blog, no joke.)

  4. These look nice and I like the color selection, but...60 bux for crocs in boat shoe form is ludacris.

  5. Man, I wish Lawrence would just throw on a white t-shirt, pound a Four Loko, eat a box of Cheez-its, and just shut the fuck up.

  6. HB- Switch the Cheez-its out for some Pringles and you've got yourself a deal.

    Scroll up.

As for your other blog, maybe you should transition the clown attire there instead. There is absolutely nothing "classic" or "understated" to be "observed" or "appreciated" about Crayola colored plastic shoes.

  8. Why am I not surprised, Lawrence. You've always loved the (dill) pickle. ;)

  9. Anon @4:26- I mean, driving mocs are pretty much classic and understated. As it is pretty obvious at this point, I also enjoy the various takes brands have on such items.

    HB- Busted!

  11. One thing overlooked about Crocs is that they are the best warm weather boat shoes ever made. And by "boat shoes", I mean shoes you actually wear on a boat - that can get wet and not chafe and dry quickly and have good traction - not shoes you wear with your rolled up chinos in Soho.

  12. Crocs are unforgiveable. These are slightly better... which is just in the neighbourhood of awful!

  13. I should add that based on my boat shoes comment, the only place these Shudy's should be worn is on the deck of your Riva, ideally on Como or the Med.

  15. I like these. I think they'd make a good beach shoe or something for just running to the store in.

I was trying to get a pair of Woz? (Magodiwoz), which is another Italian maker of these Crocs-type drivers. The only difference being the lacing on the Woz? (Herbie model) shoes was functional. I was trying to wholesale some over here in the states and sell them for around $40/per but as far as I know, their stock from last season has been eaten up and their new site doesn't show them at all.

  16. you fellas are all missing the point. They're waterproof. Its a rain shoe, just like bean boot mocs, but with a little more swag.

  17. It's like a bean boot moc, except for people who are institutionalized and aren't allowed to have shoelaces.

  18. Better than crocs...

But I think $15-$20 would be a more appropriate price for a couple pieces of rubberized plastic or wtf they are...

I'd rock them to wash my car and take my two boys to the pool...

  21. Crocs are ugly, but at least they breath (wouldn't wear em myslef, but at least they have a function). Enclosing your feet in solid rubber sounds like a surefire way loose your girlfriend. Imagine wearing low top wellies on a hot summer day. Serious swamp foot. Eww stinky!

  22. Where can I get these? These are perfect for spring/summer rain... much easier than Hunters and Bean Boots.
