Belvest S/S 2011
For S/S 2011 the Belvest man is one with "emotional style full of personal invention." Inspired by the botanical gardens of Padua, Belvest is exploring themes of elegance alongside their trademark made in Italy quality and craftsmanship. The fits seen below strengthen Belvest's claims as the primer Italian brand offering tailored options for a youth oriented market. The jackets are shorter, fit closer to the body and the trousers are decidedly slim. The key piece for S/S 2011 is, what Belvest is calling, their "New Drape" jacket. Much like the best warm weather jackets coming out of Italy, the "New Drape" is completely unpadded, fits like your favorite shirt ("falls across the body in loose folds") and takes both it's name and inspiration from the drape sleeve.

ReplyDeleteJ. Crew outlet also sells unpadded jackets. You can find them as low as $25 on the clearance rack. Of course, these simplifications, sorry, "refinements", are just a cost-cutting gimmicks.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that we have fashion blogs to tell us why paying more for less garment is justified by "trademark made in Italy quality and craftsmanship". Oh wait, its the "cut". These jackets "fit closer" and at the same time "(fall) across the body in loose folds". I'm sure its worth the price of admission just to see how that all works.
I'm surprised you aren't all over Wharf's button down club collar shirts. Seems like a sure fashon-blog buzzword bingo winner.
Anon @3:44: Making an "unpadded" jacket that looks good isn't simply a matter of taking out the padding. It requires skillful tailoring, and it's beyond the capabilities and price point of J. Crew.

Plus, I quadruple-dog-dare J. Crew to try to get a close-fitting-loose-folds jacket past the the Smarter Anons of the world.
I've been a reader for a while and always wavered on whether the owner was a whore, a poseur or just a very dedicated style dork. I always wanted it to be the third option but was never sure. This post has eliminated that option. The only two people who would type the words "the Belvest man" is either copying from the company's own product description, and therefore a shill and a whore, or is the epitome of poseur pretension.

Anon - Comparing Belvest tailoring to J.Crew tailoring is like saying that homemade pasta is the same thing as the "noodles" you can get at a dirty noodle joint on Canal. They're kind of the same but world's apart.

Unfortunately for your argument LAS actually gets paid to see and learn about the vast majority of the garments he talks about on this website. So yeah, he gets paid for his opinion and you get your jollies from sounding like an ignorant fucktard. Nice life. Please go hang yourself with the hillside chambray tie you bought at the J. Crew outlet. I'm sure it will be just as effective as a real noose.

Listen haters, sometimes the bloggin gets a bit too much. For me too. But I guess that's why we're not active bloggers. And that's kind of what you get with a subject focused blog. But criticism must allows be allowed and that's what LAS does.
