Howard Yount
Thanks to BadScene I was tipped off to Howard Yount, a brand I was not yet familiar with. Apparently created by a StyleForum poster, the goods are fairly priced and come in a variety of dandy fabrics and patterns. With everyone getting their S/S gear right it's good to update your ties accordingly and Howard Yount has all the good looking knits, linens and silks you need for this time of year. Something like a linen tie is a good look especially for the guy who is fond of wearing oxford shirting year round. By adding the linen neckwear you can take your year round uniform and instantly add a dash of spring with the warm weather fabric. I'm particularly fond of the knits though, which come in some pretty unique stripes and colors - a bunch of really great numbers are on sale as we speak (be on the look out for the rarer classically shaped knits I was talking about yesterday). You can check out everything, including pocket squares, pants and socks, here. Keep in mind the tie width trends towards trad (3 3/8", knits are 2.5") and all ties are made in Italy (many are hand finished).

From The Inbox: Harris Tweed On The Cheap
Mr. AKC, who is currently busy with actual sartorial business, sent a pretty sweet link my way this morning. Apparently for the insanely low price of around 30 bones (includes shipping yo) you can grab some handsome looking Harris Tweed ties. This is pretty amazing when you consider that J. Crew sells their own ties for like 80 bucks or whatever. With all the snow that is still getting dumped on the east coast (the right coast, right?) heavy weight fabric ties are still very much in play. I've been on such a S/S bender over here that I may just need to check myself before I wreck myself. Cheers to Antonio for shooting these my way and subsequently bringing me back to reality. As he put it, "Who needs Olch when you've got the original?" Not I and especially not my wallet.

Tie One On For Nicer Days
One of the easiest and cheapest ways I've found to get any kit ready for S/S is to throw on some neckwear in your favorite warm weather fabric. Unless you are really jonesin' for a wardrobe overhaul, all you need to do is pick up a few ties or bowties to get yourself ready for when that nice weather hits. If you rock a white oxford and chinos on the reg. you're pretty much 90% of the way there already. Tie on some madras, seersucker or gingham and your uniform is locked up for the next 6 months as far as I am concerned.
For the sartorial novice who isn't ready for some "go to hell" pants or shirting these kind of ties are a perfect introductory course in both fabric and color. Everyone from the lowest common denominators (i.e. J. Crew) to the exclusive gear hubs stock up on S/S neckwear so all you have to do is find a price point you can run with. Just remember to keep that tie width under 3" or under and you're set. Check out some options below (madras being my favorite of the bunch) complete with click through links because I work (blog?) hard for the money. Tie one on folks. Tie one on strong.
