Jack Spade Credit Card Wallet

A while back I bought myself a new RRL wallet.  I even wrote a long winded piece about the emotional significance of switching out my old walled for the new RRL one.  While I still stand by everything I mentioned in that post (even though I'm sure a bunch of people found, or will find, it silly or self-righteous), after sitting on that RRL joint for something like 9 months my spine could no longer take it - that shit was massive and I don't even carry that much crap.  For someone who has always found minimalism appealing and scoffed at my friends for lugging bricks in their back pockets, I had become just another fool who was destroying his posture daily.   So last week when I was in NYC I picked myself up a Jack Spade credit card wallet.  It was the perfect size for a guy who only has two credit cards and looked cool enough for a purchase under 30 bones.  As of writing this, it's currently on sale at the Jack Spade webstore (though not as cheap as it was in-store) and a good look if one of your ass cheeks needs to take a breather (uh, pause).  And for anyone keeping score, the canvas is already aging pretty well thanks to the days where it seemed like a really good idea to wear jeans in the summer.  This is nautical. This is canvas. This is painless.

First Look: Jack Spade F/W 2010

John over at Textbook works at Kate Spade and he posted this little preview from Jack Spade's upcoming F/W 2010 collection.  It's only a small taste of what's in store, but so far so good - that waxed jacket with the two hacking breast pockets is crazy fresh and peep the down vest in that coveted "Jay-z blue" (or at least that's what my buddy in college called it).  My man Aaron Levine (formerly of Hickey and Rogues Gallery) is now over at Jack Spade heading up menswear so I'm real curious to see what heat he can bring while staying within the confines of the distinct identity a brand like Jack Spade has already established.  Knowing Aaron I have no doubt that the "new new" coming out of Jack Spade will be straight fire.  And a belated congrats to Mr. Levine on his new gig.

Calling A Spade A Spade

Jack Spade has added some new gear to their webstore and if you're in need of some summer basics I highly recommend checking it out.  I'd personally pass on the $95 ties (they're nice, but $95 nice? Really? C'mon), but the shirts, on the other hand, are pretty awesome.  The best of the bunch are the university stripe oxfords (an absolute must own, but often hard to find), the short sleeve popover and the pique polo complete with a with a white collar and sleeve trim.  It's all typical Jack Spade fare - American classics made out of quality fabric with a good fit.  The prices are a bit steepish, as per designer anything, but if you're looking to get yourself that one new great piece of S/S shirting the financial impact shouldn't be too bad.  JS continues to prove that they can do more than just bags and set themselves up as an option for guys looking to grab those crucial staples of a well curated wardrobe.

Jack Of All Spades

[Pictured: Inspiration courtesy of Andy Spade.]

Kate Spade's husband, Andy Spade (David Spade's brother. Yes, really), best known for his line of bag's and accessories has gotten around to making clothes and it's about time.  His brand, Jack Spade, has gained momentum, since its debut in 1999, thanks to it's simplicity and functionality.  When you're first bag is sold in a hardware store, you know you've got something good.

Much like the bags he's famous for designing, his clothes are built around clean, classic lines.  Sart Inc revels in this kind of simplicity or, should we say, sartorial efficency.  Jack Spade's S/S 2010 clothes have hit the web and you can see some of the line over at Acquire.  Below you will find some of my personal favorites available now over at their webstore.  A crispy white oxford, a weeks set of italian ice colored, gingham hankerchiefs and a cabled, shawl collar cardigan are a very direct way to my heart.

The Beekman...$145

Set of Days of the Week Handkerchiefs...$95

The Lorrilard...$345
